Parliamentary Left Stands Firm on 2035 Ban of New Fossil-Fuelled Cars
The Parliamentary Left (PL) has expressed its firm stance on the ban of new registrations of fossil-fuelled combustion engines from 2035, stating that it must not be weakened. The left wing of the SPD's parliamentary group has insisted on CO2 fleet limits for new cars, a position opposed by the parliamentary group Die Linke.
The PL has made it clear that any relaxation of the 2035 ban would be detrimental from a climate policy perspective, economically unsound, and socially unfair. The proposed CO2 fleet limits aim to prevent the sale of new vehicles equipped with internal combustion engines from that year onwards.
Die Linke's parliamentary group has formally adopted a position paper opposing the CO2 fleet limits for new motor vehicles, as discussed in the coalition committee on Wednesday. This stance is a formalisation of their previously expressed views.
The PL's position on the 2035 news remains steadfast, with the left wing of the SPD's parliamentary group pushing for CO2 fleet limits. Meanwhile, Die Linke opposes these limits, as formally stated in their position paper.
