In a recent announcement, Ford has decided to recall over 312,000 vehicles due to a potential brake defect. The affected vehicles include the 2025 Lincoln Navigator, Ford Bronco, Ford Ranger, and certain models of F-150 and Expedition.

The specific nature of the brake defect involves a potential failure of the Electronic Brake Booster (EBB) module. This failure can cause a loss of power brake assist while driving or while using advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), effectively leaving the vehicle with unassisted brakes. This increases stopping distances and raises the risk of a crash.

The root cause is that the EBB motor is sensitive to voltage disturbances. If a voltage drop occurs and then recovers, a surge of current may exceed system limits, causing the electronic brake booster motor to shut down. This triggers dashboard warning lights, audible alerts, and changes in brake pedal feel.

Ford is addressing the defect with a free software update to the EBB module. This update will be delivered over-the-air or by dealers starting in August 2025. So far, there have been no reported injuries or fires related to this issue, although Ford is aware of warranty claims and at least one low-speed crash potentially connected to the problem.

Vehicle owners can get a recall check at any of Ford's dealerships. It's important to note that this recall is due to a software and electronic hardware sensitivity issue in the brake booster, which can cause a loss of power assist braking, increasing stopping distance and crash risk in these 2025 models.

  1. The recall affects various Ford and Lincoln models from the automotive industry, including the 2025 Lincoln Navigator, Ford Bronco, Ford Ranger, F-150, and Expedition, due to a software and electronic hardware sensitivity issue in the brake booster, which can potentially cause loss of power assist braking, increasing stopping distance and crash risk, as announced by Ford.
  2. Ford is taking measures to resolve this issue by providing a free software update to the Electronic Brake Booster (EBB) module, aimed at addressing the potential failure of the EBB module in the finance and transportation sectors, beginning in August 2025.
