Oregon Lottery Launches Taylor Swift-Branded Super Bowl Gambling Options
The Oregon Lottery is gearing up for the Super Bowl, with a record-breaking number of sports betting activities planned. Last year saw a significant win, with a player pocketing more than $21,000 from a single $350 bet. This year, the excitement is palpable, as the lottery prepares to launch Taylor Swift-themed bets via their DraftKings Sportsbook.
Since its inception on April 25, 1985, the Oregon Lottery has generated close to $15.5 billion in funding. A large portion of this revenue has been dedicated to supporting various initiatives, including outdoor schools, economic development, state parks, public education, improvements to watersheds, and services for army veterans.
The Super Bowl, with its celebrity-filled extravaganza, has always been a popular event for sports betting. The attendance of celebrities usually generates significant interest in sports betting, and this year is no exception.
Kerry Hemphill, the lottery's sports betting products manager, acknowledges the Super Bowl as the most popular sporting event for wagering in the US. Hemphill also hints at the 'Taylor effect' potentially creating a new phenomenon in sports betting.
The Oregon Lottery, which debuted sports betting in October 2019, has wagered a total of $1.75 billion since its inception. Last year, Oregon players placed close to 307,000 bets via the DraftKings Sportsbook, totaling $5.3 million.
This year, the Super Bowl prop bets offered by the Oregon Lottery via DraftKings include a variety of options related to Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. The 'Wildest Dream' bet allows bettors to wager on Travis Kelce scoring the game's first and last touchdown. Other Taylor Swift-themed bets include the 'Shake It Off' bet and the 'Wildest Dream' bet.
DraftKings has also announced 'Taylor Swift songs-related wagers' for the Super Bowl. However, the person responsible for coordinating the Taylor Swift-themed bets for the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers remains unnamed.
Research by Eilers & Krejeck Gaming suggests that this year's Super Bowl is likely to secure a 1% share of the nation's overall wagering handle. Prop bets for the Super Bowl will include wagers on the team that will win the coin toss, whether a scorigami will be reached, the color of the Gatorade poured on the winning coach, the winner of the game's MVP, and whether the defenses will manage to hold up for a scoreless quarter.
However, US sportsbooks have decided to refrain from accepting bets on Taylor Swift showing up at the Super Bowl. Projections for this year suggest that $1.25 billion in regulated wagers will be placed on the Super Bowl throughout the country.
As the Super Bowl approaches, the Oregon Lottery's sports betting activities continue to gather momentum, promising an exciting and entertaining event for both sports enthusiasts and Taylor Swift fans alike.
