Operations of two significant regional rail networks in northern and southern Germany are ensured through Transdev Germany's continued operation.
In a significant development for the German rail industry, Transdev Group's subsidiaries, NordWestBahn and Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB), have been awarded contracts for local rail passenger transport networks.
The Weser-Ems network, consisting of three lines: RE 18 Osnabrück - Wilhelmshaven, RB 58 Osnabrück - Bremen, and RB 59 Wilhelmshaven - Esens, will continue to be operated by NordWestBahn for another 9 years, starting from December 2026. The new contract will run until 2035, with an extension possible until 2037.
Meanwhile, BRB will continue operating the Rosenheim E-Netz in Bavaria and the Rosenheimer Kreuz electric network in southern Germany until at least 2043. The Rosenheim E-Netz, the largest of the five networks operated by BRB in Bavaria, covers a total of 260 kilometers and consists of three lines: RE 5 Munich - Rosenheim - Salzburg, RB 54 Munich - Rosenheim - Kufstein, and RB 58 Munich - Holzkirchen - Rosenheim.
The Alstom LINT vehicles currently in use on the Weser-Ems network will continue to be used, with newer vehicles to be introduced during the contract period. However, no specific information about the vehicles to be used on the Weser-Ems network after the Alstom LINT vehicles or the Rosenheimer Kreuz electric network was provided.
The new transport contracts for the Rosenheim E-Netz and the Weser-Ems network are expected to include commitments to service quality, fleet modernization (potentially including hybrid or electric buses), and operational adjustments tailored to regional demand, as is common with Transdev's operations in Germany.
The Bavarian Ministry of Transport is the governing body for the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG), which plans, finances, and controls regional and suburban rail transport in Bavaria. The ministry also oversees the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG), which operates the Rosenheim E-Netz and the Rosenheimer Kreuz electric network.
For detailed and current contract renewal information or operational specifics for the Weser-Ems network and Rosenheim E-Netz, it is recommended to consult official German regional transport authorities or Transdev Germany's press releases directly, as these are not yet publicly detailed in major international English-language news outlets or the available search results.
As of now, BRB employs around 850 people in Bavaria, and the 35 Stadler FLIRT 3 electric railcars will continue to be used on the Rosenheim E-Netz and are to be redesigned. BRB currently transports around 17 million passengers per year on the Rosenheim E-Netz.
These contract renewals underscore Transdev's commitment to providing efficient and sustainable rail services in Germany, contributing to the country's growing rail network and passenger demand.
The transportation contracts for the Weser-Ems network and the Rosenheim E-Netz, which fall under the industry sector, are expected to be financed by the relevant German regional transport authorities. In these contracts, Transdev Group has committed to service quality improvements, fleet modernization which may include hybrid or electric buses, and operational adjustments tailored to regional demand, as well as a potential extension until 2037 for the Weser-Ems network.
