Opel introduces the Mokka GSE boasting a powerful 207 kW (280 hp) engine performance
Introducing the Opel Mokka GSE: Opel's Fastest Electric SUV
The automotive world is abuzz with excitement as Opel unveils the Mokka GSE, a high-performance electric variant of its popular small crossover. This new model marks a significant step for Opel, as all future GSE-badged sporty variants will be fully electric.
Power and Performance
At its heart lies a front-axle permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering a potent 207 kW (about 278 hp) and a torque of 345 Nm. This is a significant upgrade from the standard Mokka’s 136 hp, more than doubling the power output. The Mokka GSE accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in an impressive 5.9 seconds, making it Opel's quickest electric car ever.
The top speed is capped at 124 mph (200 km/h), and it boasts a peak power of 280 PS. Despite these performance upgrades, the Mokka GSE is targeted to be under 1.6 tonnes (around 3,527 pounds), making it lighter than the standard Mokka Electric.
Dynamic Driving and Handling
The Mokka GSE offers more than just speed. It features a mechanical limited-slip differential, a rarity in small electric cars and usually found in high-end sports cars, improving agility and cornering abilities. The enhanced chassis and suspension setup offer a direct driving experience, making the Mokka GSE a joy to drive.
Design and Aesthetics
The Mokka GSE's sporty design includes aggressive bumpers, black inserts emphasizing air intakes, GSE badging, 20-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels, and bright yellow brake calipers for a distinctive sporty look. The interior features Alcantara GSE sports seats with integrated headrests, a 10-inch customizable digital driver info display, a central color touchscreen, and GSE-specific Alcantara door inserts.
The Future of Opel's GSE Sub-brand
GSE stands for 'Grand Sport Electric', continuing Opel’s tradition of sporty trims but now exclusively electrified. The brand's sporty sub-brand GSE is going fully electric and will receive a new logo. The Mokka GSE is the first production model from Opel to bear the GSE badge, inspired by the Mokka GSE Rally prototype.
Availability and Pricing
Pricing and specific market launch dates for the Opel Mokka GSE will be announced in the coming months. It will be available in both Europe and the UK, where it will be sold under the Vauxhall brand. The Mokka GSE offers a compelling blend of fast acceleration, lightweight construction, and specialized chassis technology, making it a standout among electric crossovers.
