American Science and Surplus: A New Chapter Ahead
After nearly 90 years of shipping unusual items, American Science and Surplus finds itself at a crossroads. The company, which has been a staple in the community, has faced numerous challenges in recent years, including skyrocketing operational costs and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a bid to stay afloat, the company turned to crowd funding this year. The community of customers showed significant support, raising almost $200,000 through this initiative.

Unfortunately, the company's mail order division had to be shuttered. The closure was a difficult decision, as the warehouse space required for their mail order operations was too expensive to remain viable.
The stores in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Geneva, Illinois will be a testament to the resilience of American Science and Surplus. They will continue to offer the unusual items that have made the company a beloved part of the community for nearly a century.
