## Kazakhstan's Oil Transportation Soars in 2024

Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company, KazMunayGas (KMG), has reported a substantial increase in oil transportation in 2024, reaching a total of 83.5 million tons. This figure represents a 4% rise compared to 2023 and an 8% increase over the planned amount[1][3][5].

### Expanded Oil Transit via Azerbaijan

KMG is actively seeking to expand its oil export routes, particularly through Azerbaijan. The company has already seen a 27% increase in oil transit along the **Aktau-Baku-Ceyhan (BTC) route** to 1.4 million tons in 2024, under an agreement with SOCAR[1]. This figure is expected to grow further to 1.7 million tons in 2025[1]. Another potential route is the **Baku-Supsa pipeline**, which offers an annual capacity of up to 5 million tons, providing a strategic alternative for diversifying export routes[5].

### Strengthening Logistics and Infrastructure

To support these increased volumes, KMG has been bolstering its logistics capabilities through Caspian Integrated Maritime Solutions (CIMS), a joint venture with Abu Dhabi Ports Group. This partnership plays a crucial role in transporting oil along the Trans-Caspian route with further transit via the BTC pipeline[2]. To accommodate the growing oil transportation, KMG is also focusing on expanding storage and loading facilities at the Aktau port[2].

### KazMunayGas's Ambitious Export Plans

KMG aims to supply up to two million tons of oil to Germany in 2025, marking a 50% increase from 2024 oil exports to Germany[6]. Additionally, a strategic project is underway to expand the Kazakhstan-China oil pipeline, with the approval of the technical assignment for the feasibility study with the Chinese side expected to be completed this year[4].

In the first five months of 2025, KMG transported 34.7 million tons of oil, which was 2% or 825,000 tons higher than planned[5]. To further boost its oil transportation capabilities, Kazmortransflot (KMTF) and AD Ports Group will expand their joint tanker fleet in 2025, with KMTF acquiring two Aframax tankers with a deadweight of 115,000 tons, and AD Ports Group expected to supply two more such vessels[2].

As Kazakhstan's oil transportation continues to grow, KMG is committed to strengthening its strategic partnerships, improving infrastructure, and enhancing logistical capabilities to ensure the efficient and sustainable transportation of its oil resources.

In light of Kazakhstan's Oil Transportation Soaring in 2024, KazMunayGas (KMG) aims to further expand its oil export routes, particularly through Azerbaijan, as indicated by the 27% increase in oil transit along the Aktau-Baku-Ceyhan (BTC) route. Moreover, KMG's logistics capabilities are being bolstered through partnerships, with a focus on expanding storage and loading facilities to accommodate increased volumes.
