Nikkiso's Clean Energy and Industrial Gases Group Declares Plans to Double Production Capabilities Across Europe
Nikkiso Expands Manufacturing Operations in Germany, Boosting Hydrogen Economy
Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group is set to expand its manufacturing capabilities in Germany, with a focus on clean energy technologies such as hydrogen. The expansion, set to begin commissioning activities in the fourth quarter of 2025 and reach full operations by the first quarter of 2026, will nearly double the Group's manufacturing capacity in Europe [1].
The expansion is primarily driven by the growing market demand for cryogenic equipment and plant solutions used in clean energy projects, particularly in the hydrogen sector. Nikkiso has already secured orders for hydrogen technology equipment, including a pump unit for hydrogen-fueled ships to be delivered in 2026 [3].
The new facilities will be established to support Germany’s industrial decarbonization goals and hydrogen infrastructure development. They will focus on producing green hydrogen technologies, including electrolyzers and hydrogen pumps [1][3][4]. While the exact job growth numbers are not yet detailed, such manufacturing expansions typically result in significant local employment increases.
The expanded facility in Wurzen, Saxony, Germany, will serve as Nikkiso's manufacturing hub in Europe, complementing their customer center in Neuenburg. The Group will build new manufacturing capabilities for cryogenic pump assembly, heat exchangers, and hydrogen fueling skids [2].
Adrian Ridge, CEO of Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group, is also involved in the expansion. Michael Kretschmer, the Prime Minister of Saxony, has expressed his support for the expansion, considering it a significant investment that highlights Saxony's appeal as a business location for international investors [5].
Notably, the expanded facility will be fully powered by renewable solar energy upon completion in the first half of 2025. This move aligns with Nikkiso's commitment to sustainability and clean energy solutions.
The expansion is being led by Peter Wagner, Executive Chairman of Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group. The Group, with its depth of experience in the cryogenics industry, is well-positioned to contribute significantly to the hydrogen economy in Saxony for the coming decades [6].
