Newspaper item: Rabe Takes Control - Following Bertelsmann, RTL Group also has RTL-Deutschland, Now Under His Leadership

Fresh Spin:

Hey there! So, Matthias Dang, the current co-CEO of RTL Germany, is apparently in line to move up the ranks and become second-in-command under Rabe. But that's not all, their other co-CEO, Stefan Schäfer, is jumping ship. Rabe's shared his intention to expand the leadership team and find a permanent fix for the CEO slot. He's keen on focusing on RTL Germany and figuring out what sort of leader the company needs in the future. He's clear that he'll only step into the CEO shoe on a temporary basis - definitely no more than a year.

Rabe's been the big boss at the media, services, and education titan, Bertelsmann, since 2012. He's also been steering the RTL Group since 2019. In a recent press release, he touched on his plans to manage the biz through the tricky times ahead, strengthen the management team, expand the RTL+ streaming service, and speed up the merger of RTL Germany and the Gruner+Jahr publishing house. Unfortunately, the media biz is taking a beating due to the economic downturn, high inflation, and that whole Ukraine war situation. This has caused the European RTL Group to cut its outlook, predicting a drop in profits and revenue. The RTL Group's got a hand in 64 TV stations, nine streaming services, and 33 radio stations.

RTL only introduced the dual leadership of Dang and Schäfer for the crucial Germany biz back in September 2021. The company's now spilled the beans that Schäfer's leaving, but in good spirits, and will hang around RTL as a consultant.

That said, we don't have exclusive details on who's taking over as number two or the plans for the CEO position post-Stefan Schäfer. To really get the lowdown, we'd need to check out more specific sources or official announcements straight from RTL Group.

Oh, and just for fun, here are a few tidbits about RTL Group:

  • RTL Group, a major entertainment player, controls TV channels and streaming services. However, their consolidation efforts have run into a bit of trouble thanks to competition authority decisions.
  • RTL Deutschland, part of the RTL Group, operates in Germany and includes Ad Alliance, a prominent ad sales house. Mirriad Advertising recently renewed its deal with Ad Alliance Germany to up their virtual product placement game across RTL programming.

Hope this helps!

  1. Matthias Dang, currently the co-CEO of RTL Germany, is set to rise in rank and serve as the second-in-command under Rabe, while the other co-CEO, Stefan Schäfer, is departing.
  2. Rabe, who has been leading the conglomerate Bertelsmann since 2012 and the RTL Group since 2019, has expressed his interest in broadening the leadership team and securing a permanent CEO successor for RTL Germany.
  3. Amidst the financial challenges faced by the industry due to economic downturn, high inflation, and the ongoing Ukraine war, Rabe is focusing on redefining the leadership for RTL Germany and ensuring a suitable leader for the future of the company.
  4. As a multibillion-dollar conglomerate, Bertelsmann owns RTL Group, which operates a wide array of business entities such as 64 TV stations, nine streaming services, and 33 radio stations, with a significant focus on the finance and business sectors.
