New Venture by OMRON: State-of-the-art facility unveiled in Stuttgart, initiating collaboration and technological advancements

In a strategic move to enhance its presence and market share in Europe, particularly in the largest markets such as Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, OMRON has opened a new Automation and Technology Centre (ATC) in Stuttgart, Germany[1]. This centre is dedicated to advancing automation solutions across various industries, with a specific focus on collaboration and co-creation with customers, partners, and end-users in Europe[1].

The Stuttgart ATC is particularly notable for its work in the medical industry. Given its strategic location in the heart of Europe’s machinery automation market, the centre actively supports strong collaborations with machine makers in Germany, who are prominent in the medical sector, as well as end-users in France involved in drug and medical device production[1].

One of the key innovations being developed at the Stuttgart ATC is a solution that employs AI and vision solutions to track and check the quality of vials before filling[1][3]. This initiative is part of OMRON's broader strategy to integrate automation, robotics, vision, IoT, and AI technologies to advance industrial and medical device manufacturing processes[1].

The centre brings together experts in automation, robotics, vision, IoT, AI, and other industrial fields, and is designed to facilitate co-creation, proof-of-concept development, and hands-on collaboration[1][3]. To further strengthen technical support and expertise, OMRON has established a dedicated robotics and automation organization that complements innovation efforts in Stuttgart and across Europe[1].

Moreover, the Stuttgart ATC participates in a broad ecosystem involving system integrators, machine manufacturers, and end-users. This collaboration is crucial for tailoring solutions for the medical manufacturing and drug production markets[1].

Stéphane Chômienne, Managing Director of OMRON Industrial Automation Europe, explained that the Stuttgart ATC is one of 48 automation and proof-of-concept centres worldwide[1]. The centre's location was carefully selected, taking into account the proximity of European machine makers and other key market players. Additionally, the ATC is only five minutes from the airport, making it easily accessible for European customers[1].

This new development is part of OMRON's global collaboration with US operation Cognizant, aiming to offer a one-stop solution for digital transformation, combining OMRON's OT products with Cognizant's IT capabilities[2]. The collaboration and the opening of the Stuttgart ATC are aimed at accelerating OMRON's development and broadening its market in Europe.
