In a shakeup at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Peter Amo Bediako, a former staff member, took charge at the Port of Takoradi as its Director. This move followed the retirement of Captain Ebenezer Kojo Afadzi, who had held the post since 2015.

The limelight was on Friday, June 9, as a formal sendoff ceremony was organized for Captain Afadzi. career-long journey at GPHA, which began in 1999. During his farewell address, he highlighted some milestones he achieved during his tenure as the Director of Port.

"When I stepped in, I inherited 830 employees under my wing; today, our staff strength stands at 1070. In the year 2014, the total cargo throughput was 2.2 million metric tonnes. By the end of the first quarter of this year, cargo throughput for just these three months amounted to 1,752,033 metric tonnes," Captain Afadzi shared.

Stepping into the big shoes left by Captain Afadzi, Peter Amo Bediako promised to build upon his predecessor's foundation.

"As we take on the reigns, we at GPHA-Takoradi Port pledge to uphold the stellar performance set by Captain Afadzi and push the boundaries of the port even further by continuing with the unwavering values of hard work and honesty that he instilled in us," he affirmed.

Peter Amo Bediako has a long history with GPHA, having joined the organization in April 2002. Throughout his tenure, he climbed the ranks and assumed various roles such as Marketing and Public Affairs Manager and Human Resource Manager before ascending to the position of Director of Port.

Sandra Opoku, the Director of the Port of Tema, paid tribute to Captain Afadzi's diligent work as the outgoing Director of Port.

It's important to note that Peter Amo Bediako's term as the Director of Port of Takoradi recently came to an end in April 2025 due to a decision made by President John Dramani Mahama[1][2]. However, specific details on his achievements and contributions during his tenure are not widely documented[3].
