Multitudes File Lawsuits Against DAZN
The Federation of German Consumer Organisations (VZBV) has initiated a class action lawsuit against streaming service DAZN, alleging deceptive and ineffective price increase clauses in its contracts. In the summer of 2022, DAZN increased its price from 14.99 to 29.99 euros for existing customers, a move criticized by the VZBV for lack of clear communication and transparency. DAZN Germany CEO, Alice Mascia, defended the price hike, citing the acquisition of a significant portion of Bundesliga and Champions League rights. The VZBV filed a collective action against DAZN Limited at the Higher Regional Court of Hamm, with the first oral hearing scheduled for 4 September 2026 (case number: I-12 VKl 1/24). Around 4,500 individuals have joined the class action, with registration open until at least 25 September 2026. While the first hearing is set, no specific details or key facts about the lawsuit are currently available. DAZN, known for broadcasting Bundesliga and Champions League matches, faces scrutiny over its pricing practices for existing customers. As the case unfolds, it will be intriguing to see the Higher Regional Court of Hamm's ruling and its potential impact on future streaming industry pricing practices.
