To minimize the danger, Dr. Anon supports the strategy of maintaining a "decoy" wallet filled with a small amount of crypto.
Tragically, in July 2024, a foreign national was brutally murdered in Kyiv in an attempt to seize his cryptocurrency worth over $170,000. Despite efforts to combat these crimes, the January 21 kidnapping of Ledger co-founder David Balland and his wife underlines the severity of the issue. A €10 million ransom in crypto was demanded in the abduction.
The proliferation of crypto wrench crimes is LinkedIn to the perceived anonymity and simplicity of transferring cryptocurrency, as well as the visibility of wealth in the crypto community. Experts believe these factors make individuals vulnerable targets.
