Minister Praises Northeast Artisans at National Weaving Conclave

Union Agriculture and Rural King Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan praised the craftsmanship of artisans from the Northeast at the National Conclave on 'Weaving India Together' in New Delhi on October 8, 2025. He lauded their work as a symbol of India's diverse cultural identity.

The conclave, aimed at celebrating traditional artistry and strengthening India's weaving ecosystem, saw active participation from artisans and officials. Chouhan interacted with weavers and artisans, acknowledging their skills and the need to empower them. The government committed to promoting indigenous skills and providing better training, market access, and institutional support.

Notably, the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, was recognised for its significant contribution in promoting weaving traditions and creating livelihood opportunities for rural artisans in the Northeast. Senior officials, including ICAR Director General Dr Mangi Lal Jat and ICAR DDG Agricultural Extension Dr Rajbir Singh, were present at the event.

The conclave concluded with a renewed push to make India's handloom and handicraft sectors more sustainable and self-reliant. The focus was on ensuring traditional weavers and artisans remain central to rural development. Chouhan emphasised that such efforts align with the vision of 'Vocal for Local' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', aiming to make local talent and products globally competitive.
