The U-Bahnhof Nordstraße in Düsseldorf-Pempelfort is set for asbestos removal from August 18 to September 5, resulting in service disruptions for the U78 and U79 tram lines.

Since May 21, the U-Bahnhof has been closed to passengers due to the discovery of asbestos during preliminary work to modernize the fire protection. The closure will resume on August 18, with the U78 and U79 tram lines being affected during this period.

From August 18 to August 22, the train operation between Heinrich-Heine-Allee will be suspended for four nights to ensure worker safety. During this time, the U78 will not be affected, but buses will replace trams on the U79 line.

Replacement buses will stop at the tram stops or at a temporary stop on the right side of the road. They will also stop at "Mörikestraße" and "Messe, Nordeingang" stops, as well as at platforms 4 and 5 of the Sternstraße bus stop for better accessibility. The Sternstraße bus stop, platform 4, will be moved to a temporary stop on Kaiserstraße at number 36.

Further closures will take place from August 25 to September 5, with the exact schedule yet to be announced. It is advised to consult the official Düsseldorf transit authority (Rheinbahn) website or local municipal announcements for the most accurate and updated details on U-Bahnhof Nordstraße closures due to asbestos removal.

To accommodate the repairs, a dense separation has been installed in the platform area since August 11 to prevent dust or harmful substances from escaping during the repair work.

During the asbestos removal, Duisburg trams will run via the U78 line to the "Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord" stop and then return to Duisburg. From Monday, August 18, the U79 will end at the "Heinrich-Heine-Allee" stop and return towards the university.

It is essential to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during this period to ensure a smooth journey. The transit authority appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the passengers during this necessary maintenance work.

  1. The asbestos removal at U-Bahnhof Nordstraße from August 18 to September 5 might also impact the transportation industry, as the finance department of Düsseldorf might need to allocate additional funds for temporary bus services or alternate transportation solutions for commuters.
  2. The U79 tram line disruptions due to asbestos removal at U-Bahnhof Nordstraße from August 18 to August 22 will indirectly affect other modes of transportation in the area, such as finance (for possible adjustments in commuting costs) and the transportation industry (for freight transport reliance on alternative routes).
