Mercuria AG's €9.8M Assets Seized Over Illegal Mercury Trading

A Swiss company, Mercuria AG, has had €9.8 million of its assets confiscated by a court in Essen, Germany. The seizure is linked to illegal mercury trading between 2011 and 2013, where approximately 1,000 tons of the toxic metal were sold on the world market instead of being properly disposed of or recycled.

The company, which was seized by the Bochum public prosecutor's office, made millions in profits from this illicit activity. The Regional Court of Essen ordered the seizure as part of efforts to recover these illegal earnings. The illegal trade involved the sale of around 1,000 tons of mercury, which should have been safely disposed of or recycled but was instead sold on the world market.

The decision to seize the funds is a significant step in holding the perpetrators accountable for their actions. The court's order sends a clear message that such illegal activities will not be tolerated and that those involved will face serious consequences.
