Stepping on the Brakes: Offenbach's Speeding Crackdown

Massive Vehicle Scrutinization Event in Offenbach, Involving More Than 1300 Vehicles

Take a break from the pedal-to-the-metal madness! Offenbach, Germany's traffic police have been on a mission to curb speeding, ensuring a safer ride for everyone. In their recent crackdown on April 9, 15 strategic checkpoints were set up across the city, aiming to reduce road accidents by catching speeding vehicles.

The numbers spoke for themselves - out of a grand total of 1,343 vehicles singled out, only 118 were found speeding, which amounts to an 8.8% violation rate. Among these, 96 offenses were minor infractions, with the remaining nine earning heftier fines. Remarkably, not a single vehicle was traveling so recklessly that a driving ban was necessary.

One possible explanation for this lower violation rate could be the revised traffic code, resulting in significantly higher warning and fine amounts. Could the threat of bankrupting your wallet be the new de facto speed limiter?

Speeding... Speeding never changes! The simple fact remains that speeding is the leading cause of accidents on the road, and it's a battle that F. Weber, head of the Offenbach municipal authority, refuses to back down from. Regular measurements, whether on the move or stationary, are crucial components of maintaining a safe travel environment in our city.

In recent years, Offenbach's technological arsenal for traffic monitoring has expanded exponentially. Since the beginning of 2024, two mobile measuring trailers have been added to the fleet, along with three measuring vehicles and five stationary speed cameras. In 2024 alone, around 45,000 speeding violations were initiated by the municipal authority, along with a whopping 98,000 parking violations.

School route safety remains a top priority, especially as students return from their Easter break and traffic increases. The city police task force, who carried out approximately 100 school route controls last year, will once again be stationed near schools. Their mission: to eliminate hazards early, harshly penalize violations, and protect our little cherubs from the perils of the road.
