Maserati's 2026 MCPura Model Enhances the MC20's Strengths, Transforming It into a Track-Focused Vehicle
The Italian luxury car manufacturer, Maserati, has revealed the 2026 MCPura, an evolution of the MC20 supercar that boasts improved aerodynamic performance, styling, and interior refinement, while preserving the original's distinctive character.
**Aerodynamic and Engineering Improvements**
Maserati dedicated over 2,000 hours in wind tunnels and more than 1,000 CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulations to optimise aerodynamic efficiency. The MCPura features a new "shark-nose" grille, larger air intakes, and an updated rear bumper, all designed to improve airflow and downforce without compromising the MC20’s aesthetics.
New vortex generators, added venting channels, and a fresh rear diffuser further refine airflow management. The underbody has been reworked to generate increased downforce while maintaining a sleek profile. The MCPura Cielo’s open-top design includes airflow and thermal management improvements, enabling it to maintain high-speed stability even with the roof down.
**Performance and Chassis Retention**
Under the hood of the MCPura is the same 3.0-liter Nettuno twin-turbo V6 engine that powered the MC20, delivering approximately 621 hp. The MCPura retains the MC20’s eight-speed Tremec dual-clutch transmission driving the rear wheels, accelerating from 0–100 km/h in around 2.9 seconds and boasting top speeds over 320 km/h depending on the model.
The use of the original MC20’s carbon-fiber monocoque chassis keeps the weight under 1,500 kg, contributing to a thrilling power-to-weight ratio. Maserati refined the suspension system to allow independent adjustment separate from driving modes, reducing damper firmness on uneven surfaces while maintaining dynamic responsiveness on smooth tracks.
**Design and Interior Refinements**
The MCPura offers refined cabin materials, a new steering wheel with a flat top, and additional interior options. Technology includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an infotainment screen, now featuring Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) telemetry software to display real-time data such as turbo pressure, torque output, oil pressure, and thermal conditions.
A lightweight six-speaker sound system is standard with an available premium 12-speaker Sonus Faber upgrade for audiophiles. The MCPura is available in multiple paint hues, including a new "Devil Orange," with bespoke one-off options through Maserati’s Fuoriserie program.
**Maintaining the MC20’s Unique Character**
The MCPura preserves the core attributes that define the MC20: a powerful, driver-focused supercar with a lightweight carbon-fiber chassis and dramatic Italian design. Maserati’s approach was evolutionary rather than revolutionary, carefully balancing subtle design and aerodynamic improvements with the retention of the MC20’s thrilling performance and distinct style. The MCPura and MCPura Cielo represent a polished, high-performance step forward that respects the original’s DNA while standing out as refined, track-capable thoroughbreds.
The MCPura is expected to have a top speed of 202 mph (coupe) and 199 mph (Cielo). Only 120 numbered examples of the MCPura will be built for the American market, plus 10 for Canada, and pricing hasn't been officially announced yet. Production of the MCPura begins in Q3 this year at the Modena facility, with first deliveries to U.S. customers expected in December.
