Main Customs Office Augsburg Uncovers Illegal Employment in Hospitality Industry
Last Tuesday, the Main Customs Office Augsburg conducted a local inspection day in the hospitality and accommodation industry. Over 50 officers checked for employee registration with social security, social benefits fraud, and minimum wage compliance. The inspection aimed to combat illegal work and illegal employment.
A total of 25 businesses were inspected, and 60 people were questioned about their employment status. Seven cases require further investigation. These include three suspected cases of illegal employment of foreigners and four cases of suspected withholding of social security contributions. The suspected illegal activities were found in the gastronomy and accommodation industries across Augsburg, Lindau, Kempten, Ingolstadt, Schwaben, and Oberbayern. However, specific names of individuals or companies involved have not been publicly disclosed.
In the Ingolstadt area, employees attempted to flee during the checks, indicating possible illegal activities. The inspection team was thorough, ensuring compliance with registration, minimum wage, and social security contribution regulations.
The inspection day has uncovered several cases that require further investigation. The Main Customs Office Augsburg is committed to combating illegal work and employment practices in the hospitality and accommodation industry.
