Left Party Targets 'Apollo News' Over Right-Leaning Orientation

The Left party has called for pressure on 'Apollo News', a digital news portal with a conservative and right-leaning editorial orientation, labelling it a right-wing portal. The portal, led by 23-year-old Max Mannhart, has gained attention for its investigations, including one into Thuringian constitutional protection chief Stephan Kramer.

Mannhart, who describes himself as 'essentially a classical liberal' and 'politically homeless', has led 'Apollo News' since its relaunch in Berlin following internal conflicts and criticism. The portal is popular among AfD officials and voters, with Björn Höcke showing solidarity with it. Several right to conservative media outlets view the Left's actions as an 'attack on press freedom'.

Mannhart's journalistic background includes writing for right-wing platforms like 'The Axis of Good' and 'Tichys Einblick'. In 2022, he joined Julian Reichelt's portal 'Nius' and led 'pleiteticker.de'. Before his current role, Mannhart founded 'Apollo News' in 2018 as a student blog.

The Left's call for pressure on 'Apollo News' has sparked debate about press freedom, with some conservative media outlets expressing concern. Despite its controversial image, 'Apollo News' continues to report on the AfD and other political topics, led by its young editor-in-chief, Max Mannhart.
