LBBW Asset Management has chosen Bernd Scherer to take on the role of its new chief executive officer.
Bernd Scherer, a seasoned financial expert with a rich career spanning over three decades, has been appointed as a new member of the management board at LBBW Asset Management, effective from October 1, 2021, pending approval from Bafin.
Born in Bamberg, Scherer began his career as an investment analyst at Morgan Stanley in London after completing a degree in economics from the University of Augsburg, a master's degree at the University of London, and a PhD at the University of Giessen.
His impressive career trajectory includes holding various senior positions, such as Head of Fixed Income Research at Schroders Investment Management in London, Head of Quantitative Global Tactical Asset Allocation at Morgan Stanley in London, and positions at Deutsche Asset Management in Frankfurt and New York.
Scherer also has a strong academic background, continuing to publish in academic journals and books. He has taught finance at the EDHEC Business School in London and held various academic teaching and research positions at European universities.
Prior to joining LBBW Asset Management, Scherer was the Investment Chief at the firm since 2021. However, as of 2025, he has left LBBW Asset Management to join a sovereign wealth fund.
In his role at LBBW Asset Management, Scherer will succeed Frank Hagenstein and assume the role of Chief Investment Officer (CIO). His responsibilities will include portfolio management and portfolio analysis.

Scherer is 56 years old and was previously the CEO of Lampe Asset Management in Düsseldorf, having worked at Bankhaus Lampe holding various management positions.
