Lawn excavation in Omsk city center for the purpose of constructing a parking lot.
Construction commences for parking lot on Gagarin Street opposite house number 36
The city of Omsk has initiated the construction of a public parking lot, known as "Omsk Telegraph," on Gagarin Street. As reported by Om1 Omsk, the project is currently underway, with machinery excavating the site that was previously a lawn.
In 2022, a commission approved the removal of 11 trees near the building, with the city administration stating later that most of these trees are located within the courtyard. From the parking lot side on Gagarin Street, only two birches and a pine tree are expected to be felled. However, photos sent to Om1 Omsk suggest other trees may also be affected, as workers appear to be handling the roots unnecessarily roughly.
More details about the landscaping and the parking lot itself can be found in a detailed report provided by Om1 Omsk in 2022.

What is the impact of this construction on the nearby industries, finance, and transportation sectors? Is there a potential need to reconsider the preservation of the trees near the parking lot given the concerns about their treatment by workers?
