Law Enforcement Issues Caution on Cryptocurrency Investments - Police Reiterate Risk of Fraudulent Activities

In a recent development, the Police Inspectorate Neubrandenburg has issued a warning against fraud schemes involving cryptocurrency investments, following multiple reports of such scams in the regions of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte and Vorpommern Greifswald.

The fraudsters, who have been reported to the police stations in Demmin, Greifswald, and Pasewalk, have been using well-known political figures to gain trust. Contact with the fraudsters was made via email, WhatsApp, or phone.

Initially, a sum of around 200 euros was requested to be paid into a designated account. Further payment demands followed, usually justified by the need to make a withdrawal possible. However, in no case did a withdrawal occur after several large sums had been transferred, causing a total damage of 73,000 euros in the three reported cases.

The police have advised that personal data should be handled with caution, and online advertisements should be questioned. If one wishes to invest money, they are advised to seek information from their bank. Investing money on the internet is associated with high risks due to the unverified authenticity of platforms.

The perpetrators falsely advertised or promised investments in cryptocurrencies for multiplication of one’s own money. The victims of these scandals have been represented and reported by the local police authorities who recorded the multiple fraud complaints on August 26 and 27, 2025, explicitly issuing warnings and advice to the public regarding such scams. No other specific organizations or names of victim support groups are mentioned in the available information.

The Police Inspectorate Neubrandenburg Press Office can be contacted for inquiries during office hours. The contact information is provided: Johanna Liebich, telephone 0395/5582-5007, email [email protected], and the website of the Police Headquarters Neubrandenburg.

The perpetrators used a similar modus operandi in all three cases. The police in Neubrandenburg urge the public to be vigilant and cautious when dealing with unsolicited investment offers, especially those involving cryptocurrencies.
