Latino Vote in 2024 U.S. Election Shaped by Age, Language, Identity
The 2024 U.S. presidential election saw significant influences from age, language, and national identity among Latino voters, who made up 15% of the voting-age population. Economic concerns and demographic factors shaped their political preferences.
Age played a role in voting patterns. Voters over 50 favored the Republican Party the most, while those aged 18 to 29 showed the most change in their voting preferences. Language use also mattered. Latino voters from bilingual families or Spanish-speaking homes leaned towards Democrats, while those whose primary home language was English supported Republicans more.
National identity further influenced preferences. Cuban Americans traditionally aligned with Republicans, while Mexicans and Puerto Ricans favored Democrats. Despite this, the Latino vote remained overwhelmingly Democratic, though a shift towards Republicans was observed. Economic concerns were top priority for Hispanics, with some dissatisfied with their financial situation believing Trump's policies could improve their personal finances. However, the Latino vote was not decisive in any swing states or those with large Latino populations in the 2024 election.
