Kroger Appoints New Head of Combined Dallas and Houston Retail Divisions
Kroger Consolidates Texas Divisions for Operational Efficiency
Kroger, one of North America's leading grocery retailers, has consolidated the president roles of its Dallas and Houston divisions into a single Texas division. This move aims to simplify operations, increase efficiency, and better compete in the highly competitive Texas market.
The newly formed Texas division, which includes over 210 stores and 26,000 associates, will be led by Rudy DiPietro. DiPietro, who previously served as the president of the Dallas division, brings with him a wealth of experience, having spent 21 years with Ahold Delhaize USA and holding leadership roles with Food Lion, Hannaford, and most recently, Ahold Delhaize USA as the VP of omnichannel planning and execution across five brands.
Valerie Jabbar will serve as DiPietro's superior in the new Texas division. This reorganization is part of Kroger's strategy to create more operational efficiencies and cost savings, which can translate into lower prices and improved customer service.
Kroger's Texas division covers stores in North, East and Southeast Texas and West, Central, and Southwest Louisiana. The company believes that this streamlined structure will help create a more unified approach to store management and customer service, ultimately providing a better shopping experience for its customers.
This move comes as Kroger faces intense competition from regional grocers like H-E-B and WinCo. By unifying leadership and resources, Kroger aims to better compete in the region and maintain its low prices. The company also plans to invest more in its associates, potentially improving workforce stability and performance.
Kroger serves more than 11 million customers daily and is ranked No. 4 on The PG 100, Progressive Grocer's 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America. The company has also been named among Retailers of the Century by PG.
In other news, Hershey has named a new President and CEO, with Kirk Tanner, a longtime PepsiCo exec and current Wendy's leader, being tapped to succeed the retiring Michele Buck. Meanwhile, the Head of Marketing at J.M. Smucker is planning to retire, with a replacement search underway.
