Klemens Hallmann files for bankruptcy personally - Klemens Hallmann Files for Bankruptcy
In August 2025, Klemens Hallmann, a prominent Viennese real estate investor and the owner of the Hallmann Corporate Group, filed for personal insolvency at the Commercial Court of Vienna. This move initiated a reorganization procedure with self-administration, rather than a personal bankruptcy settlement.
The insolvency case involves 102 creditors with claims totaling approximately 95 million euros, of which about 75 million euros are due to guarantees (bürgschaften) that Hallmann had assumed for other companies. Hallmann has proposed a restructuring plan offering creditors a quota of 30 percent payable within two years.
Hallmann's declared assets are around 5.865 million euros, including real estate properties and company shares. The insolvency filing attributes the financial difficulties primarily to a "currently exceptionally challenging and toxic market environment" characterized by turmoil in capital and real estate markets as well as structural shifts in financing conditions. Hallmann’s goal is to conduct an orderly sale of existing assets during the insolvency process to protect creditor interests and fulfill the proposed restructuring quota.
It is worth noting that the Hallmann Holding company is not affected by Klemens Hallmann's personal insolvency and remains operational and separate from the insolvency procedure.
The insolvency of Hallmann is part of a broader real estate crisis impact in Austria. Earlier in April 2025, the developer Süba AG, a company associated with Hallmann, entered insolvency proceedings with liabilities of about 226 million euros and assets of roughly 8.6 million euros, reflecting a much larger financial scale and highlighting the ongoing distress in the property sector.
This restructuring plan conclusion for SUBA AG could potentially serve as a model for Hallmann's personal insolvency proceedings. The Alpine Creditors' Association made this announcement.
Klemens Hallmann is well-known for being the husband of Germany's Next Topmodel winner Barbara Meier, and they have two daughters together. The couple has been married since 2019.
As of late August 2025, no newer updates beyond these developments have been reported. The Hallmann Corporate Group, primarily active in the real estate and real estate development sector, continues its operations under the leadership of Klemens Hallmann.
