Khulna Power Station to Transfer Ownership of Second Power Plant to Turkish Corporation
The Khulna Power Company has announced a significant move in the energy sector, selling its second power plant to Turkey's Aksa Enerji Uretim AS. The 115MW facility located in Khalishpur, which has been non-operational since March 2024 due to the non-renewal of its power purchase agreement with the Bangladesh government, will now be under new ownership.
The details of the transaction value have not been disclosed publicly. However, the company confirmed the sale in a price-sensitive statement filed with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on 23rd July, 2025. Following the announcement, Khulna Power's share price rose by 2.63% to Tk11.70.
This sale marks Khulna Power's second major divestment in recent years. In 2024, the company sold its first 110MW barge-mounted power plant to the US-based Excelerate Global Operations LLC for approximately Tk130 crore.
Currently, Khulna Power's only revenue-generating asset is its 150MW United Payra Power Plant, in which it holds a 35% stake. The details of Aksa Enerji Uretim AS's future plans for the 115MW power plant are yet to be disclosed.
The Khulna Power Company's decision to sell its non-operational power plants is part of a strategic move to focus on more profitable ventures. The company's shares have been on a steady rise since the announcement, reflecting investor confidence in the company's future direction.
