KDHE Launches Comprehensive Review of Kansas Air Quality Programs
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has initiated a comprehensive review of its air quality management programs. This process involves various aspects, including New Source Review (NSR) permitting, Kansas State Implementation Plan (SIP) infrastructure requirements, and operating permits issued under the Clean Air Act.
The Region 7 Air Program Reviews, led by an unnamed official, are currently underway. These reviews encompass a wide range of air quality management aspects, including the KC Transportation Air Quality Study. The delegation of authority in Kansas for New Source Performance Standards and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants is also being assessed during this process.
The review process involves a thorough examination of federally approved regulations and State Implementation Plan (SIP) summaries. This ensures that Kansas' clean air act permitting aligns with both federal and state requirements.
The KDHE's air quality management review is ongoing, with a focus on ensuring compliance with the Clean Air Act and maintaining effective SIP infrastructure. The process aims to strengthen Kansas' air quality programs and protect public health.
