Tesla Unveils Model Y L for Chinese Market, Aiming to Capture Family-Oriented EV Buyers

Tesla has officially announced the arrival of a new variant of its popular Model Y SUV, specifically designed for the Chinese market. Dubbed the Model Y L, this extended-length six-seater is set to hit the roads in autumn 2025, boasting a longer wheelbase and increased passenger space, particularly in the third row.

The Model Y L, which has already commenced production at Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory, extends the Model Y's wheelbase by approximately 15 cm, reaching a total length of nearly 5 metres (4.98 m to 4.976 m). This expansion aims to provide a more spacious and comfortable ride for passengers, especially in the back seats, an area that had previously been somewhat cramped in the seven-seat versions of the Model Y.

In terms of design, the Model Y L bears a resemblance to the Model X, with a stretched roofline and optional premium touches such as a gold paint finish and redesigned wheels. Powering the Model Y L is a battery pack slightly larger than the standard Model Y's (estimated at around 82 kWh compared to the standard 78 kWh), potentially offering a range comparable to or slightly better than previous versions, despite the increased size and weight.
