Remembering Joseph Ross: A Life Dedicated to Geology, Service, and Nature
Joseph Ross, a petroleum geologist, Navy veteran, and nature enthusiast, will be honoured in a memorial service on August 12th at 2:00pm at Chapel Hill Church, 10 Chapel Hill Drive, Brighton, CO 80601.
Born on February 11, 1944, in La Junta, Colorado, Ross's passion for geology began at the tender age of six. This passion led him to pursue a career in the field, working in Colorado and Wyoming, including with Amoco in Denver. After leaving active duty, Ross attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, earning a master's degree in geology.
Ross enlisted in the United States Navy after graduating in June 1966. He was promoted to Lieutenant on November 1, 1970, and flew 52 combat missions in the Vietnam war.
Ross is survived by his wife, Patricia Ross, daughter Hillary Ross (Tony Rossiter), two grandchildren, Hannah and James, two brothers, Dan and Jim Ross, and other loving family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ross's honor may be made to The Davis Phinney Foundation (PO Box 270948, Louisville, CO 80027) or Humane Colorado (formerly Dumb Friends League) at humanecolorado.org.
Ross found joy in nature from a young age, especially fishing and camping. Holbrook Lake in La Junta was a favourite spot for his fly fishing. He also had a fondness for climbing mountains, seeking out mineral specimens on Mount Antero, Colorado.
The life of Joseph Ross was a testament to his dedication to his passions, his service to his country, and his love for his family. His memorial service will be a celebration of this remarkable life.
