Jeep to Increase Hemi Engine Use, Recon Model Set for November Launch During Vehicle Revamps
Jeep Expands Offering of Hemi V-8 Engine Across Models
Jeep has announced plans to extend the availability of the popular 6.4L Hemi V-8 engine into more of its models, including the Jeep Gladiator. This move comes as the brand seeks to cater to strong consumer demand for power and off-road capabilities.
Currently, the 6.4L Hemi V-8 engine is available in the Wrangler Rubicon 392 and the Grand Cherokee SRT. By adding it optionally to the Gladiator, Jeep aims to continue the legacy of this powerful engine, which produces 470 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque in the Wrangler Rubicon 392.
Jeep's CEO, Bob Broderdorf, has confirmed that the Hemi engine will continue to be a core part of Jeep’s lineup. He hinted at potential future utilizations of the Hemi V-8 engine in the Gladiator, emphasizing the engine's continuing and expanding role in Jeep’s off-road-oriented brand portfolio.
In addition to the expansion of the Hemi engine, Jeep is also launching several new models. The all-new Recon, its first trail-rated battery-electric vehicle, will be launched in November. A refreshed Grand Wagoneer for 2026 will also be launched, offering more power, new tech, style, and more value.
The 2026 Wrangler will also see new colors and features, as well as more personal and customizable versions. Jeep is also launching a new Cherokee in late 2025, after a 3-year hiatus with the nameplate.
Jeep's focus on offering customers more choice in powerful engines is a shift from earlier expectations that the engine might be phased out. Previous Stellantis leadership under CEO Carlos Tavares had a strong focus on raising prices and prioritizing electrification. However, Jeep's current strategy seems to be more customer-centric, taking into account the demand for powerful engines in its off-road vehicles.
Jeep's sales in 2025 are doing slightly better than in 2024, with positive sales volume for Wrangler, Gladiator, and Compass. The brand is also launching seven vehicles in seven months, including the Compass in Europe, Commander in the Middle East, Avenger in South America, and four North American models.
Despite the expansion of the Hemi engine, Jeep also recognizes the need to consider global emissions rules. The brand may continue to offer smaller internal-combustion engines and electrified propulsion in its lineup.
