Jeep confirms the production of the sturdy Gladiator with a robust 392 V8 engine, while the muscular Wrangler 392 will remain a permanent fixture.
Jeep Extends Life of Hemi V8 Engine with New Models
Jeep enthusiasts rejoice! The American automaker has announced that it will be extending the use of the iconic 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine beyond its originally planned discontinuation. This decision comes with the introduction of two new models: the Wrangler Rubicon 392 and the Gladiator pickup in a new Rubicon 392 variant.
The Wrangler Rubicon 392, which was initially slated for a 2024 or 2025 "Final Edition" release, will now remain in production for several years, making the V8 a permanent fixture in the lineup. The Gladiator Rubicon 392, featuring the same powerful engine, is expected to launch soon as part of Jeep’s new V8 expansion.
Speculation and hope are high for additional V8 variants, such as a Grand Cherokee SRT8 or Trackhawk, but official release years for these models have yet to be announced.
The Wrangler Rubicon 392 and Gladiator Rubicon 392 are undoubtedly rowdy vehicles, promising a thrilling driving experience. The 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine, known for its roar, is expected to deliver the same level of performance and excitement in these new models.
Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf confirmed at a recent media event that the Hemi V8 is "here to stay" and that more V8-powered Jeep projects are underway. However, exact dates for new models beyond the Wrangler and Gladiator variants have not yet been revealed.
The Hemi V8, which was previously slated for removal from the Wrangler, has been given a new lease of life. The four-door pickup model, featuring removable doors, roof, and a 392 cubic inch V8 engine, is yet to be released.
Meanwhile, the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 is making waves across the Stellantis lineup. It has already been revived in the 2025 Ram 1500, and there are rumours that the Hellcat-powered TRX is making a comeback.
