Italian companies in Dubai witness a nearly 10% increase, as Dubai solidifies its connections with Southern Italy.
In a recent development, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the Executive Chairman and CEO of DMCC, has highlighted the potential synergies between Dubai and Southern Italy. This assertion comes on the heels of DMCC's 'Made For Trade Live' roadshow in Naples and Palermo, an initiative aimed at fostering business connectivity between the two regions.
The roadshow, organised in partnership with prominent Italian and regional trade bodies, including the Naples Chamber of Commerce and the Department of Economic Activities for the Sicilian Region, gathered over 260 Italian business leaders.
DMCC, a significant gateway for international business expansion in Dubai, showcased the emirate as a global trade and innovation hub during the roadshow. Participants learned about DMCC's support for companies in establishing operations and linking into international value chains.
The roadshow has seen a surge in Italian companies joining DMCC's free zone. Over the past year, the number of Italian companies in DMCC's free zone has increased by nearly 10%, totaling more than 530.
The growth in Italian companies joining DMCC's free zone coincides with the roadshow. This expansion underscores DMCC's economic contributions to Dubai, which include 7% of the GDP and 15% of the annual foreign direct investment.
The UAE-Italy non-oil trade exceeded USD 14 billion in 2024, marking a growth of over 20% compared to the previous year. This growth is a testament to the potential for further collaboration between the two regions.
DMCC sees strong potential for collaboration in strategic sectors such as agri-food, coffee, precious metals and stones, and energy. The Italian Chamber of Commerce that participated in the roadshows in Naples and Palermo is the 'Camera di Commercio Italiana.'
With nearly 26,000 member companies, DMCC continues to be a significant contributor to Dubai's economy, underlining its role as a gateway for international business expansion.
