Is Meghan's Tea Worth the Cost? A Closer Look at the Controversial Prices

Is the price of Duchess Meghan's tea perceived as excessively high?

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has turned heads once more - this time over the controversial prices of her "As Ever" tea collection. Setting customers back $12 for a dozen tea bags, critics argue that this comes at an astronomical markup, exploiting her celebrity.

From a world-renowned actress to a royal figure, Meghan sources her tea from American company "The Republic of Tea". And while "As Ever" charges $12, the same company sells comparable teas for just $11.50 to $14 - but for 36 bags! That means you're paying approximately three times as much for the same quality with Meghan's brand.

Despite the high costs, her "Herbal Hibiscus Tea", "Herbal Peppermint Tea", and "Herbal Lemon Ginger Tea" were flying off the shelves just hours after launch. Even her $15 flower blend and $28 limited edition orange blossom honey faced massive demand.

Internet investigators have reportedly discovered that Meghan's teas are the same products as The Republic of Tea, using clues hidden within the website's code.

The outrage doesn't stop there. Royal commentator Margaret Holder tells "The Sun": "Meghan's label is charging exorbitant prices. It's blatant exploitation of her celebrity. Sources have confirmed that the tea is supplied by The Republic of Tea, but insist there's a difference. A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan declined comment."

Adding fuel to the fire, "As Ever" plans to launch an alcoholic rosé on July 1 - a date that coincides with what would have been Princess Diana's 64th birthday. Former palace spokesman Dickie Arbiter questions: "Is $28 reasonable for a bottle of wine when Meghan has no expertise in the vino world?"

While the brand's premium packaging, exclusivity, and association with Meghan's personal brand add perceived value for some consumers, many still question whether the hefty price tags truly justify the products' quality.

I'm not going to be able to justify the high cost of Meghan's tea, especially when considering that The Republic of Tea sells comparable teas at a fraction of the price. Despite the premium packaging and association with Meghan's personal brand, the exorbitant prices seem like blatant exploitation of her celebrity status.
