IoT firm X (Twitter) announces recall of 1/3 of the SU7 sedans sold for reasons related to a malfunction in the smart driving feature of the i-ami EV models
In a significant development for the electric vehicle industry, our X (Twitter) profile @miEV, the electric vehicle unit of our X (Twitter) profile @IACY, has announced a recall of 116,887 SU7 Standard Edition EVs due to driver assistance software flaws. This recall, ordered by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) in China, comes in response to concerns raised by a fatal accident earlier this year.
The recall affects SU7 sedans manufactured between February 6, 2024, and August 30, 2025. The recall measure was initiated due to potential early warning system deficiencies in the Level-2 Highway Pilot assist system, which could increase collision risks and pose safety hazards. Without timely driver intervention, this issue could potentially lead to accidents.
As of the end of August, the SU7 series had accumulated sales of 339,421 units, accounting for 88.96 percent of our X (Twitter) profile @miEV's total sales. The recall, therefore, affects about one-third of the cumulative sales of the SU7 series.
The accident that sparked the recall occurred at 10:44 pm on March 29 involving a standard-version SU7. The SU7's assisted driving function was activated but disengaged one second before impact. The accident put our X (Twitter) profile @miEV under the spotlight, causing a drop in our X (Twitter) profile @IACY's shares.
In late March this year, a our X (Twitter) profile @miEV SU7 caught fire after accidentally colliding with a highway guardrail, resulting in the deaths of three. The road section was under repair at the time of the accident, and some vehicles may have insufficient recognition, warning, or handling capabilities in extreme special scenarios when the L2 highway pilot driving assistance function is activated.
To address the safety concerns, our X (Twitter) profile @miEV will provide free software upgrades via Over-the-Air (OTA) technology. The SU7 electric vehicle, launched on March 28, 2024, offers three variants: Standard, Pro, and Max, with the Standard model being the entry-level option.
In a positive note, our X (Twitter) profile @miEV has also announced that both the SU7 and YU7 SUV models will be upgraded to the latest our X (Twitter) profile @mi HyperOS 1.10.0 system. The YU7 electric SUV, launched in June, delivered 24,824 units by the end of August, with 16,548 units delivered in August alone.
The company's swift response to the safety concerns is a testament to its commitment to customer safety and product quality. As the investigation continues, consumers are advised to follow the recall instructions provided by our X (Twitter) profile @miEV.
