Insider Zubin Appoo takes over as permanent CEO from Richard White at WiseTech Global
WiseTech Global, a leading logistics and trade software company, has announced the appointment of Zubin Appoo as its permanent CEO, effective immediately. The decision comes after a thorough search following the departure of co-founder Richard White.
Richard White, who stepped down as CEO in October 2021, left his position due to allegations about his personal life. The allegations, which were reported by The Australian Financial Review and other media outlets, included claims of inappropriate behavior. An external review acknowledged that White's management style might be perceived as intimidating by some employees.
Following his departure, White transitioned to a long-term consulting role and returned as executive chairman of WiseTech Global in February. Four non-executive directors of the company resigned in February due to differing views regarding White's role.
Andrew Cartledge, the company's chief financial officer, served as interim CEO since White's exit. Cartledge, who was previously CFO since September 2015, will remain with WiseTech Global until his retirement at the end of calendar 2025.
Zubin Appoo, who has a longtime history with WiseTech, having been involved between 2004 and 2018, worked closely with White on growth strategy. He rejoined the company as CEO after various executive roles outside WiseTech. Appoo was previously the chief of staff at WiseTech Global.
In a statement, Appoo expressed commitment to driving the company's long-term growth and expanding its vision in global trade and logistics, working with the Board, leadership including Richard White, and the broader WiseTech team.
The appointment of Appoo comes at a time when WiseTech Global faced corporate governance concerns, management exodus, and share volatility after White's departure. The company conducted an external and internal search to find a permanent CEO.
WiseTech Global has faced numerous challenges in recent years, but Appoo's deep experience with the company and leadership in the tech industry are expected to help steer the company through these challenges. The company remains a major player in the logistics and trade software industry and continues to expand its global footprint.
The new permanent CEO, Zubin Appoo, has been appointed at WiseTech Global, a leading logistics and trade software company, with a focus on driving the company's long-term growth and expanding its vision in global trade and logistics. Simultaneously, Appoo's deep experience with the company and leadership in the tech industry are anticipated to aid in navigating the corporate challenges faced by WiseTech Global recently.
