Building Awards 2024: Celebrating Excellence in Construction
The 30th edition of the Building Awards, a prestigious event for the construction industry, took place last night at The Grosvenor House Hotel, London. This year's awards, organised by Building, a UK magazine for construction professionals, recognised outstanding projects, organisations, and individuals across various categories.
In the highly competitive Building Project of the Year category, the regional winner for the East Midlands was G F Tomlinson, Lincoln College Group, Pagabo, WT Partnership, Banks Long & Co, Stem Architects Ltd, Curtins, and CPW.
The Regeneration and Retrofit category saw winners from different regions. In the West Midlands, STEAMhouse for Birmingham City University was the winner, with AtkinsRéalis, Birmingham City University, Aukett Swanke, and Bowmer + Kirkland involved in the project. Saltdean Lido in London and the South East, R H Partnership Architects, Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company, MCA Consulting Engineers Ltd, and others were the winners in that region. The North East's winner was The Pattern Shop, with AtkinsRéalis, Newcastle City Council, Igloo Regeneration, and others involved. In the North West, the Fishwick Estate EWI was the winner, with National Energy Action, Seddon Housing Partnerships, Aldrock Surveyors Limited, and others involved.
The Plant & Civil Engineering Awards 2024 saw Railway Plant Services Ltd win the Plant Hire Company category, RiverRidge & RMP Hire taking the Excellence in Customer Service category, Cemcor Ltd & P at O’Donnell & Co winning the Environmental Initiative category, and Creagh Concrete winning the Construction Company category, among others.
While the BESA Awards, Architecture Today Awards, and TOBY Awards did not disclose their 2024 winners, Constructing Excellence and the Plant & Civil Engineering Awards provided detailed results for their respective categories.
In the Specialist Contractor of the Year, Contractor of the Year, and Major Contractor of the Year categories, the finalists were DGP plc, Kilnbridge, Mivan, Specialist Group, Glencar, Reds10, Tilbury Douglas, Balfour Beatty VINCI, McLaren Construction, VINCI Building, and Wates Group, but the winners have not been announced.
The Architectural Practice of the Year finalists were BPTW, Buckley Gray Yeoman + BGYID, ECD Architects, HLM Architects, LOM architecture and design, Ryder Architecture, but the winner has not been announced.
The Construction Consultant/Surveyor of the Year (fewer than 100 staff) finalists were B&CO, Cahill Design Consultants, Circle Development, exigere, Keegans, Magnitude Quantity Surveyors Ltd, MESH Construction Consultancy, Plan A Consultants, Twin and Earth Ltd, Zerum Consult Ltd, but the winner has not been announced. Similarly, the winner for the Construction Consultant/Surveyor of the Year (over 100 staff) category has not been announced.
The CEO of the Year award was given by a panel of industry experts, including Dr Bola Abisogun (Founder of Digital Twin Skills Academy CIC), Brian Berry (CEO of Federation of Master Builders), and Katy Dowding (Skanska UK), but the winner has not been announced.
The Building Magazine Project of the Year finalists were Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (2 Ruskin Square and One Great Cumberland Place), HLM Architects (London Institute for healthcare Engineering), Jenner Group (Shoreline), L&P Group (Lucent), Mace Group (UCL Marshgate), Sheppard Robson (TTP Campus), Tillbury Douglas (Scottish National Galleries), Todd Millburn, Richard Elpick, Brims, JCP, Ad Gefrin, Willmott Dixon (Gascoigne East Estate Regeneration - Phase 2), but the winner has not been announced.
The Housing Project of the Year finalists were Autor (Preston Road), Cullinan Studio with ECE Westworks (Maitland Park Estate), Fraser Brown Mackenna (FBM) Architects (Regent Place), Kier Construction (Marylebone Square), McAleer & Rushe (Canada Water Plot K1, London and Exchange Square Phase 2, Birmingham), Platform_Platform_ (Glasgow), Solus Homes Limited (HSSP Architects Limited and BARK Design Studios, Waterside Village), Vivly Living (Knowle Grange, Abbey Road, Shepley), Willmott Dixon Westminster City Council & Child Graddon Lewis (300 Harrow Road), but the winner has not been announced.
The Manufacturer of the Year finalists were ARC Building Solutions, Keyfix, Lignacite, Saint-Gobain Interior Solutions, Senior Architectural Systems, Siderise Insulation, Zentia, but the winner has not been announced.
The Construction Client of the Year finalists were British Land, Bruntwood SciTech, Enfield Council, Ministry of Justice, Quadrum Global, Stanhope, Transport for Greater Manchester, but the winner has not been announced.
The Good Employer of the Year finalists were Ashe Group, Balfour Beatty VINCI, BPTW, HLM Architects, Kier Group, Mace Group, Plan A Consultants, Rider Levett Bucknall, Ridge and Partners, Whittam Cox Architects, XCO2, but the winner has not been announced.
