India's Job Market Sees Soaring Demand for JavaScript, SQL Skills Amidst Lockdown Uncertainty
India's job market is seeing increased competition and shifting demands, with JavaScript, SQL, and leadership skills among the most sought after. While hiring picked up by 35% from April to June on Indeed, the recovery is expected to remain flat due to uncertainty and lockdown measures.
The top five in-demand skills in India currently are JavaScript, SQL, Sales Management, team leadership, and recruiting. Competition for jobs has doubled, with an average of 180 applications per job posted on LinkedIn in June. The recovery in hiring is expected to remain flat in the coming weeks due to uncertainty.
Some states in India have imposed lockdown measures again due to risks of a second COVID-19 wave. This has led to job seekers in affected sectors being 6.8 times more likely to look for jobs in a different sector compared to pre-COVID times. Despite this, hiring in India picked up by 35% from April to June, according to LinkedIn's report. However, hiring sentiment in India stands at -15% year-on-year as of June.
The top five in-demand jobs in India are software engineer, business development manager, sales manager, business analyst, and content writer. While there's been a significant increase in hiring from April to June, the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic and lockdown measures may slow down the recovery in the coming weeks.
