In Russia, Yeltsin reported an unconventional air strike: a blaze at a battery manufacturing facility.

In the Russian city of Yelets, an accumulator factory experienced drone attacks, resulting in fires, according to various media reports and Russian Telegram channels. The alleged attackers were reportedly Ukrainian drones, as suggested by the Russian Air Force Service.

Governor Igor Artemov of the Lipetsk region of Russia also reported a captured area in the industrial zone, and residents claimed numerous drone "flights" to the "Energy" factory, a producer of accumulators and batteries, on social media groups. The factory, a key supplier to the Ministry of Defense of Russia, confirmed this on its website.

Artemov further reported debris falling in the industrial zone, causing a blaze, and emergency services rushing to the scene for evacuation. He also mentioned allegations of casualties resulting from a drone landing in the industrial zone of Yelets.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia later stated that they had allegedly shot down and intercepted 112 Ukrainian drones over various regions of Russia and the temporarily occupied Crimea. The most significant drone activity occurred over the Moscow, Tula, Kursk, Oryol, Bryansk, Ryazan, Kaluga, Belgorod, Ivanovo, Voronezh, and Lipetsk regions of Russia and the occupied Crimea.

In the wake of these attacks, operations at three airports in Moscow — Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky — were suspended on the night of May 23, 2025.

The attacks extended beyond the Energia plant, with the Azot chemical plant in the Tula Region also being targeted by Ukrainian drones. However, no specific information about casualties or the number of intercepted drones during these attacks is available at this time. The Energia factory halted its operations following the attacks.
