Hurricane Aid for Members: Cable-Industry Organization ACA Connects Extends Assistance
Small and medium independent broadband and video providers, represented by ACA Connects, are extending a helping hand to their members as they prepare for Hurricane Milton and recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
In a statement, Patricia Jo Boyers, president of BOYCOM Vision and chairman of ACA Connects, expressed support for the members affected by the hurricanes. She emphasised the crucial role of reliable communications networks during these challenging times, stating that they are essential for people to connect with loved ones, access recovery information, and rebuild their communities.
ACA Connects is ready to assist its members in various ways. They can help providers access Department of Homeland Security "access letters" for communications providers in restricted areas. Additionally, the organisation can obtain status updates and express member concerns over obstacles to recovery through the Communications Information Sharing and Analysis Center (COMM-ISAC).
The organisation has also issued a member advisory titled "Preparing for Weather-Related Emergencies and Ensuring Compliance with Related Regulatory Obligations." This advisory offers information on key compliance requirements during natural disasters, government programs to help essential personnel communicate during network degradation, and available FCC assistance to restore or maintain service.
Moreover, ACA Connects works closely with other providers and industry associations within COMM-ISAC to exchange information and coordinate response activities during emergencies. This collaboration ensures that members have access to the latest updates and resources to help them reconnect and safeguard their services.
The advisory concludes with a heartfelt wish for Godspeed for its members fighting to ensure their subscribers are connected with lifeline service. The organisation stands with its members and pledges support, resources, and manpower to help them during these difficult times.
Meanwhile, the Broadcasters Foundation has made emergency grants to those affected by Hurricane Helene and other disasters, providing additional support to those in need.
Grant Spellmeyer, President and CEO of ACA Connects, leads the organisation in its efforts to support its members. He is committed to ensuring that smaller providers have the resources and assistance they need to prepare for and recover from natural disasters.
As Hurricane Milton approaches and the aftermath of Hurricane Helene continues, ACA Connects remains ready to help its members should they need assistance. The organisation is also committed to connecting its members with federal resources, updates on preparation and recovery efforts, and other affected providers and industries for rebuilding efforts.
