High-tension electrical wires connecting Zirndorf and Gebersdorf
In response to the escalating power demand stemming from the energy transition, a substantial project has been unveiled in the districts of Fürth and Würzburg, Bavaria. The project, spearheaded by transmission system operator Tennet, will concentrate on the upkeep and expansion of an 80-kilometer high-voltage line segment between the substations Zirndorf and Rottendorf.
Initially, N-ERGIE Netz GmbH had intended to decommission the line between Zirndorf and Rottendorf. However, due to escalating requirements for the power distribution network as part of the energy transition, this decision was reversed. The high-voltage line, which is part of a larger network extending to Nuremberg-Gebersdorf, will remain operational.
The project will encompass both maintenance and expansion of the existing high-voltage line. On a 4.3-kilometer stretch, the high-voltage line will be replaced by a high-voltage cable. The section between Zirndorf and Gebersdorf, currently under new construction, will also feature a high-voltage cable.
The necessity for these measures is attributed to the increasing power demand in the power grid. The high-voltage line between Zirndorf and Rottendorf, extending south to Nuremberg-Gebersdorf, will play a pivotal role in addressing this increased demand.
This investment in the maintenance and expansion of the high-voltage line is part of the broader initiatives towards the energy transition. The project is slated for the upcoming months and is anticipated to significantly contribute to the reliable and sustainable power supply in the region.
