GMC Announces Global Expansion, Targets China, Australia, and New Zealand
GMC, the American automaker, has announced a significant global expansion. The brand, known for its full-size SUVs and trucks, aims to bolster its presence in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and the Middle East. This comes as sales of GMC vehicles surged by 6.5% in 2023, the highest since 2017. Notably, the Yukon and Yukon XL were the best-selling full-size SUVs in Canada last year.
GMC's expansion plans include entering the Chinese market in 2024 with the Yukon SUV. This move follows a 10% increase in sales in Canada in 2023. The brand also plans to reach Australia and New Zealand by 2025. This global push is part of GMC's strategy to strengthen its operations in key markets while transitioning towards electric vehicles.
GMC's chairman, whose name was not disclosed, has overseen this global expansion. The company aims to maintain its profits by keeping its popular full-size truck and SUV lineup in production until 2035.
GMC's successful 2023, marked by increased sales and best-selling SUVs in Canada, has paved the way for its global expansion. With plans to enter China, Australia, and New Zealand, GMC seeks to fortify its position in key markets while preparing for the shift to electric vehicles.
