Germany's Minimum Wage Enforcement: Over 2,600 Inspectors Check Hotels and Catering Nationwide

Since January 1, 2025, Germany's general minimum wage stands at 12.82 euros per hour. Today, over 2,600 inspectors from the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit have been conducting surprise checks in the hotels and catering industry nationwide. The results will be announced next week.

The hotels and catering sector, one of Germany's largest and most employment-intensive, is subject to the Minimum Wage Act (MiLoG). Inspectors are verifying compliance with the legal minimum wage, proper working time records, social security obligations, and illegal employment practices. They are also checking for improper receipt of social benefits and ensuring workers carry and present ID documents. The nationwide results of these targeted inspections will be released at the beginning of next week via a separate press release.

The inspections, conducted by over 2,600 employees, aim to ensure fair labor practices and compliance with the law in the hotels and catering industry. The findings will be made public next week, providing insights into the sector's adherence to Germany's minimum wage standards and other labor regulations.
