Germany to Implement Price Regulation for Tickets Starting from 2027
In a significant announcement, Christian Bernreiter (CSU) has confirmed changes to the financing of the Germany ticket following the Transport Ministers' Conference in Munich. The changes aim to provide clarity for users and transport companies, ending the uncertainty that has surrounded the ticket's financing.
The good news is that the Germany ticket will continue indefinitely, with the federal government prepared to provide 1.5 billion euros per year for the ticket until 2030. The states will also contribute 1.5 billion euros per year during the same period.
From 2027 onwards, the exact financing composition will consist of equal annual contributions of 1.5 billion euros each from the federal government and the Länder (states), totaling 3 billion euros per year. This model provides financing clarity for five years but shifts more cost burden onto users, as the federal government is not covering the full shortfall as initially intended in the coalition agreement.
To determine the price of the Germany ticket from 2027, a cost index will be developed by autumn 2025. Factors such as wage and energy costs will be taken into account in this index. The price of the Germany ticket will increase to 63 euros from January 1, 2026.
Stefan Schnorr, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, described it as a good day. Despite tight budgets, the federal government is committed to funding the Germany ticket, as evident by their pledge of funds for the coming years.
