Germany Seizes €10k in Untaxed Tobacco, E-Cigarettes From Shisha Bar
Customs officers in Germany have seized a large quantity of untaxed tobacco products and e-cigarettes from a shisha bar in the Heinsberg district. The discovery follows an anonymous tip and a tax investigation that began in 2018.
During a recent inspection, customs officers noticed a man locking a van and entering the shisha bar. Upon searching the van, they found nearly 50 kg of tobacco and e-cigarettes, with a total liquid content of around 16,000 milliliters. Inside the bar, only taxed tobacco products were found, but a search warrant was issued for the van.
The 45-year-old bar owner and his 34-year-old employee were suspected of tax evasion and receiving stolen goods. The tax investigation procedure against them was first opened in 2018 due to violations of the Tobacco Tax Act.
The seized tobacco and e-cigarettes are estimated to have evaded around €10,000 in taxes. The investigation is ongoing, and the bar owner and his employee face potential criminal charges.
