German Authorities Foil Major Terror Plot, Arrest Three Suspected Hamas Members
German authorities have foiled a major terror plot, arresting three suspects linked to Hamas. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt confirmed the threat was concrete and attack plans were advanced.
The suspects, a 36-year-old German-Lebanese citizen, a 43-year-old Lebanese citizen, and a 44-year-old German-Syrian citizen, were accused of procuring weapons and ammunition in Germany for Hamas. They were arrested in Berlin, with searches conducted in Leipzig and planned in Oberhausen, North Rhine-Westphalia.
During the arrest, special forces discovered an AK 47 assault rifle, several pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition. The weapons were intended for potential attacks on Israeli or Jewish facilities in Germany. The Federal Prosecutor's Office revealed that the suspects have been procuring firearms and ammunition since at least the summer of 2025. This is linked to the four arrests in Germany in summer 2025 related to the procurement of weapons and ammunition.
The arrests come amidst growing concerns about Germany being considered an 'action space' for terrorists, as stated by Interior Minister Dobrindt. Hamas, responsible for the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack in Israel, was behind the planned attacks. The suspects are now in custody, and investigations continue to ensure the safety of German citizens and Jewish communities.
