On July 16, 2025, over 60 representatives from industry, science, and administration gathered in Grenzach-Wyhlen for the "Regional.Klimaschutz.Machen" event, organised by the Lörrach District Administration. The aim of the event was to develop concrete prospects for the region's future power supply, focusing on the transformation of the electricity infrastructure, corporate development, and regional cooperation.

The "Regional.Klimaschutz.Machen" alliance, which was established to address climate protection issues at a regional level, saw key participants from various sectors. Among them were representatives from EWS Schönau, naturenergie Hochrhein, and badenova, as well as companies like Roche, DSM-Firmenich, and the University of Freiburg.

District Administrator Marion Dammann emphasised the importance of collaboration with grid operators, businesses, and politics in achieving the energy transition. She highlighted that such collaboration would be crucial in restructuring regional power infrastructure and meeting ambitious climate targets.

The event served as inspiration for discussions on restructuring regional power infrastructure and the role of businesses in this process. The focus was on practical steps to integrate local heat generation and utilisation systems, such as connections to existing industrial waste heat sources and future geothermal energy projects, to optimise regional energy efficiency.

The event in Grenzach-Wyhlen marked a significant step forward in the Landkreis Lörrach area's commitment to advancing the energy transition through coordinated efforts in infrastructure adaptation, company involvement, and leveraging local renewable energy potentials. The region's ambition is to drive the energy transition effectively, with active stakeholder engagement and regional cooperation at its core.

[1] Given the focus on the energy transition at the "Regional.Klimaschutz.Machen" event, the specter of collaboration between environmental-science experts, industry leaders, and financial institutions becomes increasingly important to future energy projects in the region.

[2] With an emphasis on the role of businesses in restructuring power infrastructure, it is essential to consider the implications for the industry sector, especially in terms of corporate development and potential financial investments in sustainable energy initiatives.

[3] Although the event highlighted local renewable energy potentials, it's also crucial to explore the integration of energy-efficient solutions in other sectors, such as waste management and industrial manufacturing, to ensure comprehensive environmental improvement efforts in the region.
