Food company Saval Foods gains control over Pastore's Italian Wholesale Distributor through an acquisition.

In a significant move that has resonated throughout the foodservice industry in the Mid-Atlantic region, Saval Foods LLC has announced the acquisition of Pastore's Italian Wholesale Distributor. This union brings together two historic, family-owned Baltimore businesses, both renowned for their commitment to quality, tradition, and community.

Founded in 1898, Pastore's has been a staple in the Baltimore food scene, supplying retail customers and local delis with premium Italian products. Meanwhile, Saval Foods, established in 1932, encompasses three key divisions: Saval Foodservice, Deli Brands of America, and 1932 Specialty Produce & Meat. The acquisition aims to provide restaurant operators greater access to Italian specialty products.

The Sun of Italy brand, launched by Pastore's in 1982, will expand on Saval's existing portfolio of Italian offerings for foodservice customers. Mike Pastore Jr., joining Saval Foodservice as business development director for Sun of Italy, will guide the brand's continued growth while honouring its tradition of high quality.

Paul Saval, president of Saval Foodservice, expressed admiration for the Sun of Italy brand, praising its resonance with Saval's values of quality, community connection, and tradition. Mike Pastore Sr., owner of Pastore's, shared his pride in the Sun of Italy label, welcoming Saval Foods' interest in building on the brand's legacy.

The acquisition will also see the integration of Pastore's expertise, ensuring a smooth transition without loss of momentum. Deli Brands of America, Saval's manufacturing division, produces premium deli meats and proteins sold nationwide, and will now further support the Sun of Italy brand's growth.

1932 Specialty Produce & Meat, another division of Saval Foods, provides fresh produce and fresh-cut meat solutions to restaurants and institutions. This consolidation strengthens local family-owned business representation and enhances foodservice supply chains in the Mid-Atlantic, supporting both institutional and hospitality sectors with premium Italian products under Sun of Italy.

In summary, the acquisition has reinforced the Sun of Italy brand's reputation while broadening its market penetration and improving foodservice distribution capabilities across the region. This strategic move not only benefits Italian restaurants but also enriches the foodservice landscape in Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.

  1. The integration of Pastore's expertise into Saval Foods' operations will ensure a smooth transition and enrich the quality of Italian specialty products offered in the foodservice industry, allowing restaurant operators greater access to these offerings.
  2. The acquisition of Pastore's Italian Wholesale Distributor by Saval Foods will expand Saval's portfolio of Italian offerings for foodservice customers, particularly the Sun of Italy brand, while enhancing foodservice supply chains in the Mid-Atlantic region, ultimately benefiting both the institutional and hospitality sectors.
