Finalists Announced for 'Building Beyond the Norm' Innovation and Sustainability Award
Innovative Construction Projects to be Honored by Bavarian Chamber of Civil Engineers
The Bavarian Chamber of Civil Engineers (BIC) has revealed the six shortlisted candidates for its annual "Building Outside the Box" award. This prize acknowledges the most promising young talents and groundbreaking ideas in the engineering sector. The award ceremony will take place on July 17, 2025, in Munich.
Introduced in 2022, the "Building Outside the Box" prize encourages participation from young engineers under 40 and start-ups established within the last five years. Eligible entries are evaluated based on factors such as environmental and energy efficiency, digitalization, interdisciplinary approach, methodology, and degree of innovation.
According to Prof. Dr. Norbert Gebbeken, President of the BIC, "The construction industry requires a digital and ecological transformation to foster modern digital technologies and significantly reduce waste and carbon emissions. This transformation can drive meaningful change for society, and it necessitates trailblazers who dare to push boundaries. The 'Building Outside the Box' prize aims to inspire and recognize those pioneers."
The following six projects have secured a nomination for the award:
- AI-based software AI4plan2BIM by ZM-I KI generates digital twins of buildings.
- Excav UG offers an innovative assistance system for excavator operators.
- A house with external prestressing of rammed earth walls planned by three TU Dortmund students.
- Building Information Cloud GLWG offers improved planning processes through software planBIC.
- David Auch and Can Murat's master's thesis "SeenSucht" at the University of Stuttgart discusses high water management solutions.
- Triqbriq AG presents a sustainable wooden construction system.
On July 17, the winner will be selected through a live pitch. Both the jury and the audience will contribute to the decision regarding the most convincing project. Further details about the rallying of these six shortlisted projects can be found in the accompanying press release.
