FERC Repeals 53 Outdated Energy Regulations in Modernization Push
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has issued an order to repeal 53 outdated regulations. The move, led by Democratic chairman David Rosner, is set to streamline the regulatory process and modernize energy oversight. The order responds to an April executive order from President Donald Trump and will become effective 45 days from today after publication in the Federal Register, unless significant adverse comments are received.
The 53 regulations, which have been in place for years, will sunset in one year after the new order is finalized, unless FERC votes to extend them. The review and update of these regulations aim to ensure they align with statutory mandates and strengthen the nation's energy system. FERC Chair David Rosner, initially appointed by Joe Biden and temporarily elevated to chairman under President Trump, described the move as a 'common-sense commitment to a fast and fair regulatory process'.
The repeal of these 53 regulations is a significant step towards modernizing energy oversight. The process will ensure that regulations are up-to-date, relevant, and effective in strengthening the nation's energy system. The new order will come into effect 45 days from today, barring any significant adverse comments.
